Man Builds A Stick Library For Every Dog At The Park

Dogs make our lives far more fun! Canines are our best friends, loyal and playful companions, ready to love us unconditionally no matter what.

Since they are so kind to brighten up our days, it is sometimes our turn to do something for them. All our dog needs is our time, and well..some treats..and rubbing their belly.

Oh, wait, I forgot..and sticks!

When outdoors, playing with sticks is probably the most enjoyable time our dogs get.

A 59-year-old dog owner named Andrew Taylor from Kaiapoi, New Zealand was well aware of the power of sticks, so he wanted to do something for all dogs that come to play in the park.

He made a ‘stick library’ so that all dogs can borrow a stick when they needed one.

His daughter Tayla, explained:

“Our dog Bella had become a stick lover because she ripped to shreds any balls or toys. While trimming the trees, my dad found himself with a lot of dead branches and knowing from experience how hard it can be to find a good stick, and that the new dog park was opening soon, he had the idea that he would save them and put them in some kind of box.”

Her father sanded and cleaned the sticks well before putting them into a wooden box, engraved “Stick Library- Please return”.

His daughter explained:

“I first shared the video to our Kaiapoi Residents Noticeboard on social media, where people thought it was a really awesome idea and shared pictures of their own dogs saying thank you or heading down and using the stick library.

Shortly after that, I made an event asking people to meet me at the dog park on December 11 to celebrate the stick library and get some photos.

As people started to arrive, there was disbelief of how simple the idea was, but it’s one of those ideas no one had thought of. All the dog owners appreciate it as they all have experienced the ‘good stick search’ which isn’t always fruitful, it’s an idea that just makes sense to them.”

Tayla added that the dogs instantly fell in love with the Stick Library. About 50 dog owners attended the launch party, and one of them even came with a cat.

Here are some reactions to the “Stick Library”:
